July Wrap-up // My Last Month of Summer Break *cries*

I’m gonna be honest right now and say that I don’t remember much about July.

I’m writing this on August 8th (because I’m too much of a mess to pre-schedule posts), and I’m racking my brain, trying to remember the highlights of the month, because I know I’m gonna forget some. 🀑 But I’ll try my best to make this wrap-up as comprehensive as possible.

Also, since I don’t have much to say in the intros of my wrap-ups, I’ve decided that every month, I’m gonna call attention to one issue that needs urgent attention in them! I have a platform, and it’s my responsibility to use it for good.

This month I’m directing you to this carrd about how to help Lebanon deal with the Beirut explosion. (But please don’t sign the petitions—they’re useless in the Middle East.) If you don’t have money, but still want to help, this Twitter thread contains ways to donate without spending a single dime. Some of the links simply require you to click on them to donate!

July was my last month of summer break!! Five months of summer, quarantine, and having no responsibilities baby. 😌 But I was such a clown for thinking that I’d get lots of writing done in summer! I mean, I did. But this month I had a breakdown over what exactly I wanted my WIP to be about. Thankfully, I figured it out, though not without a lot of days spent doing nothing but think. So yeah, right now, I’m still in the planning stage, and I’ve accepted that I still have a lot of thinking to do before I can outline. I’m trying not to rush myself, but it would be nice if I finished outlining in time for NaNoWriMo. πŸ₯Ί

i’m glad that 751 people share my struggle lmao

I also tried to continue doing Chloe Ting workouts after I successfully completed her 2 week shred in June, but I just had zero motivation to exercise this month! Me and Chana @ Paper Procrastinators even tried to do it together, but we both gave up lmao. Though the plus side to this is that we’ve started talking more!! By the way it’s her birthday today, greet her or else. πŸ”ͺ

Lastly, I made a Bookstagram account because Chana convinced me to! I haven’t posted any pictures yet, but rest assured that I have pictures to post and my friends have told me that they look good. :)) I just have to find the motivation to finalize how I want to edit my pictures and take more pictures (but I’m so lazy to set up and put everything back 😭). Anyways, leave your Bookstagram handle down below and let’s follow each other!

July was an abysmal reading month in terms of quantity and quality. I only read four books, which is an all-time low. I’m pretty sure I’m behind on my reading challenge now—I’m too scared to check! And pretty much all of the books I read were disappointing, even a highly anticipated read…

But I’m trying not to fret too much because four books is great, and I focused on my WIP this month!

53098416 11250317 50892212 41716919

I’ll Be the One by Lyla Lee– Hands down my favorite read of the month! This was so easy to fly through. I loved seeing a fat bi girl defy a fatphobic industry’s expectations and fall in love with an amazing guy. Simply gave it 3 stars because it wasn’t very complex or memorable.

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller– As I feared, knowing how their story would end prevented me from caring about Achilles and Patroclus lmao. I just… was not invested in this book at all. Plus, Greek mythology isn’t my cup of tea because I despise the idea of your fate being set in stone and reading about misogyny and casts of characters that barely have any women.

These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong– ………… It’s time to come clean and say that I didn’t like this book. I’m the only one so far, I know. I’m so devastated because this was my most anticipated release of the year and everyone I buddy read it with loved it! I just, found the characters flat, wanted more from the setting, and found some things about the plot unrealistic?? I was expecting so much from this, and I think that’s what ruined it. 😭

Jade War by Fonda Lee– Another disappointment that I had to force myself through. I was enjoying it so much at first, but as I kept reading, I got so bored and tired of being fed information. Also, some lines were lowkey fatphobic and… no spoilers but did that one character need to be a pedophile? Seriously what did that serve the plot

I only posted five times in July, which is a disappointment because I wanted to post more, especially in the last month of summer break. But again, July was a writing month, and five posts is still good!!

Also, this was such a good stats month even though I didn’t post a lot and what I did wasn’t very flashy?? My blog is gaining followers and views at such a fast rate—thank you so, so much. πŸ˜πŸ’• I feel like I’ve finally figured out my blogging voice and what makes a post do well (hopefully saying this doesn’t jinx it lmao).

What I posted:

I mentioned this in my last post, but I’ve started school already! I’ve finished the first week, and so far online classes are super chill. They end at 12 and sometimes 10, there are 15-30 minute breaks in between classes, and we have free periods sometimes. I don’t think I’m in danger of disappearing, especially because I procrastinate doing homework a lot. But please send me good vibes anyway I hate doing homework, especially math ❀

How was your July? What was the best book you read? If you’re in school, did school start for you already? I hope you have an amazing August!

  1. Great post Caitlin! I totally understand you about the writing. Sometimes you think you’re doing great and THEN comes a breakdown when you question where you want to take the story to, and many other things. Sadly I’ve been in a writing slump for over a year but hopefully that will end soon.
I admire you for even trying to work out, I could neverπŸ˜‚ that’s just so not my thing.
I’m sorry to hear July wasn’t the best reading month for you:( my favorite book was indeed I’ll Be The One! It wasn’t that much complex but I had a great time reading it and I loved everything about it. The Song of Achilles and These Violent Delights are both on my TBR so I’m kinda scared you didn’t like them:(
    Have a great August!

    1. thank you!! ahh, i hope you get over your writing slump soon! writing is hard, but you can do it ❀ (but imo, it's fine to not write if you don't have the time/energy)
haha, it's also not my thing, but i feel bad because of how poorly i treat my body. just try doing a chloe ting workout and you might surprise yourself with how well you can stick to a routine!
i'm so happy you also enjoyed I'll Be the One ❀ and, ahhh, i don't think you need to worry too much. i'm just super hard to please, and i dislike pretty much everything :((
hope you have a great August too ❀

  2. Amazing post!! And girl, did you just say FIVE POST in a month?! Because that’s screaming effort and that is just AMAZING πŸ‘πŸ‘ But I’m sad you are not that invested in The Song of Achilles😭

    1. thanks ❀ ahh, i blush 😳 five posts really isn't bad, i think i'm just comparing myself to that time i posted nine times in a month while having school :") i'll just have to add it to the long list of hyped books i wasn't invested in/didn't like :((

  3. Oh no you didn’t like These Violent Delights? Maybe I need to lower my sky high expectations after all the hype for it haha. It’s too bad you’re back to school, but at least it seems fairly chill. It’s exciting that you’ve figured out what your WIP should be about, excited to hear more about that if you share more about it on here πŸ™‚ hope you have a nice august ❀

    1. i’m still sad about it 😭 i don’t think you have to worry because everyone else loves it. but just in case, maybe lower your expectations a little! yep, it’s so chill, haha. ahh, i don’t think i’ll share more any time soon, but maybe when i figure more things out πŸ‘‰πŸ»πŸ‘ˆπŸ» hope you have a great august ❀❀

  4. OH NO…. not you disliking these violent delights 😭😭 i definitely have very high expectations for it so i’m a bit nervous now? but i also had high expectations for the burning god and i still really enjoyed it despite having a few critiques so perhaps it’ll be that way with tvd. (i’m just now realizing i feel the same way about the bone shard daughter and these are all my top 3 most anticipated releases for the last half of 2020 lmao, maybe this is a sign)

i’m so happy you were able to figure some things out in your wip!! Thinking sometimes is really the best way to get some ideas, i can’t wait to hear more about it >:) i’m also in the same boat as you, hoping to outline in time for nano — i believe in both of us!! and aah i’m sorry that you already started school and have homework, i’m sending all the good vibes ❀ i hope you have a great august!!

    1. i hope the trend continues on with these violent delights, or better yet—that you wholeheartedly love tvd! i think i just projected all my expectations onto tvd, idk 😭

thank you ❀ hope you have a great august and that you outline in time for nano too πŸ₯Ί ahh, maybe i’ll share more when i know more about it! but yeah, right now all the “”writing”” i’m doing is just thinking/planning πŸ˜‚

  5. Great post! The Song of Achilles is on my TBR but I am sad that you didn’t enjoy it as much as you wanted to! My favorite August read was The Cruel Prince (yeah I know, I am late to the party). I have been getting more into Bookstagram (my handle is @theonewhoreadit) and I followed you! Can’t wait to see the photos you’re going to post! I’m sending you a lot of good vibes, may this school year be great and good luck with math! I hope August is going to be a great month for you! All the best!

  6. Ah, I loved reading this wrap up! I’m still sorry school has started for you, even if it’s been pretty chill. πŸ˜€ Uni starts for me in a month, and I’m not looking forward to it – they haven’t figured anything out, and it’s undoubtedly going to be a mess. :/ I deactivated my bookstagram account, but I’ve been thinking of reactivating when I saw you tweet about joining bookstagram. Not sure *when* I’ll do it, but as soon as I do, I’m going to follow you. πŸ₯Ί I’m sad Jade War didn’t work for you. (I don’t remember the fatphobia, I’ll have to pay more attention to that when I reread it for the third book!) Same about These Violent Delights – I’m hoping it’ll work better for me. I never wanted to read The Song of Achilles, because I know it’ll end in suffering, and I don’t actively seek out sad books. πŸ˜… Still, it’s sad it didn’t work for you.

Best of luck on your WIP, I know you can do it. ✨ Rooting for you to be able to finish outlining it by NaNoWriMo. (But even if that doesn’t happen, you’re already so powerful for working on it next to school. πŸ₯Ί) Hope you’re having a wonderful August!

    1. i’m so glad! ah, that’s so sad :(( i hate how badly we’re handling this pandemic lmao. but still, i’m crossing my fingers that everything works out for you in the end ❀

ahh, you don't have to reactivate if you don't want to πŸ₯Ί but it's so sweet that you're gonna follow me if you do 😭 now i really want to get my sh*t together and finally post something! and i don't think jade war is blatantly fatphobic lmao… i'm just really tired of old/creepy men being the only ones described as fat, and it's like their fatness is supposed to add to their disgustingness or oldness?? that probably doesn't make any sense, but basically: it's mostly just a me thing 😭 i hope you like these violent delights—i'm the only one who doesn't like it so far, so i'm sure your chances of liking it are pretty high! yeah :(( guess i'll just have to add it to the long list of hyped books i don't love

thank you so much πŸ˜πŸ’• this means so much because homework is preventing me from working on my wip as much as i want to :(( i hope you have a great august too ❀

  7. Ohh, I wish you all the best luck with your WIP! I’m happy to hear that you managed to figure some things out! As much as I love writing Fantasy … the worldbuilding is both fun to do and also excruciating πŸ˜… My next story idea will be High Fantasy as well … so I’ll need lots of worldbuilding 😱

Sorry to hear your reading month wasn’t as great though πŸ₯Ί I’ll Be the One gives off such positive vibes and I’m happy to hear that it was such a quick read 😊 I finally read The Gilded Wolves this month and it was such a fantastic book πŸ₯° Sending you lots of good vibes for school!! (and math homework! That’s never fun πŸ˜…) ❀

    1. thank you so much!! yes, you have to figure out so many things when writing fantasy because you’re basically building a world from scratch 😭😭 wishing you all the luck with your next wip— you can do it ❀

yeah, i really hope august will be better, but so far it's not because the starless sea is putting me in a slump 😭 i really hope you pick up i'll be the one! ❀ and i'm so glad you liked tgw!

  8. Ah I am sending you all the good vibes your way for school and your homework, you got this! I relate on the writing Fantasy though, it’s why I think I’m probably going to write Urban Fantasy cause it’s a wee bit easier on my poor brain xD Woo for posting 5 times in a month though, it may not have been as much as you wanted but you still posted FIVE times and you deserve cookies/fav snack for that. I’m sorry that you didn’t have a great reading month last month tho 😦 Hopefully this month is a better month for your reading Caitlin, July ended up being more of an Urban Fantasy month for me so I was loving all the books I read xD I also read The Beauty of the Moment by Tanaz Bhathena which I liked a lot! Hope you have a wonderful August ❀

    1. thank you so much, you’re the best πŸ₯Ί ugh, building a world from scratch is so hard :(( urban fantasy seems like it’ll be easier, haha. it’s so exciting that you’re gonna write something—i’d absolutely love to learn about your wip once you do!! ahh, clo πŸ₯Ί that’s exactly what i needed to hear. you’re right: five posts isn’t bad!

i’m so glad that your reading month was amazing! i’ve heard great things about the beauty of the moment! i hope you have a wonderful August too πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί

      1. I started writing it earlier this year but I kept stopping because I felt like the story and characters needed to stew in my head for a while. I will say that I’m planning on setting it in the North of England by the sea and the MC has a German Shepherd xD Writing about the dog is arguably my favourite thing to do as I’ve grown up with German Shepherds so I enjoy bringing the dog to life in the pages.

Other than that I literally have no plot though so…it’s a shame stories need a plot *sobs*

        Liked by 1 person

      2. ahh, that’s so exciting!! i’m all for dogs in books i love them so much πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ’– but it’s definitely ok if it needs to stew in your head for a while, do what’s best for you/your story! & lmao i relate to that. sadly i can’t give you any advice bc i just magically stumble on plot 😭 maybe think about some books that you think have excellent plots & get some inspiration from those?

  9. Aaah Caitlin tysm for the birthday wishes and for threatening people to wish me a happy birthday too πŸ₯Ί a true friend β™₯️β™₯️

Also I feel very called out about the Chloe Ting challenge, but at least we gave up together πŸ˜„ I think that you’ll be happy to know that one of my friends started the challenge too after hearing we were doing it and she also gave up ☺️ we are inspirations!

5 posts a month is fantastic!! Especially when all 5 of those posts were of the utmost quality! I hope that you’re reading in August goes more positively! πŸ’•

  10. ah, i’m sorry to hear summer break is over, though considering it was five months long, it was about time, hahah. i am wishing you all the luck with your novel outline. i’ve been writing a lot more recently, but i realized that putting deadlines really doesn’t work for me, and i end up only writing whatever/whenever i feel like it. it probably means i’m going to take forever to finish it, hahah, but it makes the process more fun to me. i definitely encourage you to work at your own pace!

as for the bookstagram, one of my irl best friends just created one and he’s pestering me to create my own account too. i just find SO hard to take pictures that look good together in a feed. my personal instagram’s feed is super messy and i wish i could be mor reorganized.

i am sorry this ended up being a bad reading month, though. i really did not like a song of achilles either, and found the romance to be really lackluster. it’s such a hyped book and i had really high expectations, it was a true disappointment.

hope you have a great august & all the luck with your homework!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. yep, it really was about time, haha. ah, i’m glad that not setting deadlines is working for you, thank you so much for sharing your process πŸ₯Ί i don’t know whether deadlines work or don’t work for me, but i do know that actually writing my thoughts down instead of just mulling over them in my head is *much* more effective. i really should stop sitting down and doing nothing in the name of “brainstorming” lmao

ah, i don’t think you have to worry about it too much! i find that we are our own worst critics, and other people probably won’t notice the things you don’t like about your pictures. i don’t think you need to have the most perfect or cohesive feed ever, just make it look presentable, haha. best of luck if you ever start a bookstagram ❀

i don't really get what everyone sees in it too 😭 i think a big reason i didn't like it is that i'm not an emotional reader, and your enjoyment of tsoa hinges on how much you were emotionally impacted by it. but overall… it was just an ok book with ok characters and romance? nothing too bad but nothing too memorable either ://

thank you so much, i hope you have a great august too ❀

  11. Good luck with school starting back up again! I’ll be rooting for you (Especially with math, because it is The Worst). I also hope that your writing goes well and remember: planning is still totally a part of the writing process and you’re not “wasting” any time at all, with trying to figure out the plot. All of that planning is definitely going to help during the writing stages and I know you’ll get it all sorted before NaNo!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. thank you so much, nicole! πŸ’• (it really is—i hate how long it takes for me to get it.) ahh, that’s exactly what i need to hear right now 😭 i really needed a reminder that planning is still a part of the writing process, & will ultimately help me when i go on to outlining & drafting!

      1. Of course!! (Kuddos for you for getting in; I still don’t understand it to this day!). I think it’s so easy for writers to discount any work that doesn’t result as direct words on the page, but there are SO many elements of writing–including planning–that should still count as something worth doing or not as wasted time!! You’re doing great and I believe in you!

        Liked by 1 person

      2. ahh nicole πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ’– thank you so, so much! again, i really needed to hear that, especially bc school is sucking up all my time and energy to write. you’re doing great too, and i hope you’re having an amazing month ❀

  12. I’ll Be the One was also my favorite book I read last month. It was just so happy. I’m sorry you didn’t like These Violent Delights. 😦 It’s one of my most anticipated reads so I’m kind of scared now. Especially because I usually don’t read fantasy. I hope school’s going well for you. Mine starts later this month. Is it weird doing online school? We’re using a different model of online schooling than we did during spring. It should be interesting. I also spend this month plotting my novel. I just need to find the motivation to, you know, write it lol. I hope you have a great August!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. it really is a happy book, i’m so glad you enjoyed it! ahh, i’m still sad i didn’t like it, but i don’t think you need to worry because my opinion is *very* unpopular.

i actually like online classes so far bc they only take up half the day lmao. but they’re not good bc i have a short attention span and always end up messing around on another tab :”) i don’t know if my version of online school is gonna be the same as yours, but i wish you all the luck when school starts! plotting is already a great feat, but i hope the motivation comes! thank you, i hope you have a great august too ❀

  13. I never understand almost everybody’s hate for Math. It was my favorite subject in school! I’m glad school so far isn’t that bad, with the online classes and all. I hope it stays that way!
I think it’s very impressive to write a fantasy, so great job on all the planning progress you did! πŸ™‚ And I’ve heard so much about I’ll Be The One. It really sounds fun and light!

  14. For me July was the winter break and we are about to start the second semester of the year, wow. I hope you have the best time with bookstagram! The thing for me with Chloe Ting is that I can follow her for max 3 weeks but I will end up unmotivated, tired of the repetitive routine (that’s how it feels to me) and bored so I have decided to stop doing her workouts, at least for now and find a new routine that fits me and my taste better!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. good luck with your second semester!! thank you so much! omg same! i think part of the reason why i had no motivation to do 2 weeks shred again was because i already knew the videos inside out. but i’m too lazy to learn a new routine lmao… i really should exercise again but i can’t find the time to 😭

  15. Is it universal that July was just meh for everyone then?? I also only read 4 books, enjoyed them all luckily, but like ditched on reading A THING for like 2 weeks. Sad that you didn’t love your most anticipated. That’s THE WORST. And I’ve also just started up with uni again so sending the good vibes Caitlin.

Also, YAY for working on writing though! I,,, keep forgetting that NaNoWriMo exists lmao. I need to get back to writing but like even my brain forcing me to write can’t make my brain do something it doesn’t want to welp. (And well, I’m a slow reader and a mood one at that so four is usually good enough for me πŸ˜…) Oh, I remember enjoying TSOA and am planning to reread the book someday this year to see if my feelings towards the book change or not.

Also I feel you about taking photos for bookstagram!! I really dislike having to take out the books for pictures and then having to put them back again on their places. Even if it’s just one book the mess it makes… πŸ˜‚

Good luck with your school and WIP, Caitlin!!! I believe YOU CAN DO THIS!! I wish that August will treat you better and be a good month for you both life and reading wise πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

  19. I loved reading this wrap-up, Caitlin! Good luck with school, you got this.❀️ I’m glad it hasn’t been too stressful so far and I hope it stays that way! I go back (online) in two days and I am not mentally prepared because it doesn’t feel real after so long not in school, especially since it’s virtual.

I’m so excited you made a bookstagram and I can’t wait to see any content you post! Though I definitely relate to not wanting to set everything up, haha- I try to take a lot of pictures at once and I also post not a lot, so I usually only have a photo session like…once a month. Ahh, I’m also so sorry your reads disappointed you this month!! That’s the worst :// I really hope you find more books to love in August!! Sending you all the love for this month, you’re the bestπŸ₯°

*you’re* the best, olivia πŸ˜πŸ’–πŸ’– i really hope so too, but ahhh, i think i’m sorta in a slump, and the books i have read haven’t been mindblowing. that’s such a good idea though—i’ll try to take all my pictures for the month in one go! that seems like it’ll save me a lot of time, plus the lighting won’t be different, haha. also i really need to get off my butt and figure out how i want to edit my photos so i can post already 😭

  20. ahh that’s so exciting about starting a bookstagram, i’m not on the platform but i’m sure your pictures will be stunning!! πŸ’– i’m so sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy most of the books you read, though, i hope you find some amazing ones this month! but i’m really happy to hear that you made progress with writing ❀️

i feel you on starting school 😭😭 i start school, like… tomorrow and i’m so scared lmao!! sending you all the best vibes for school though, you totally got this! i hope you have a beautiful august πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

    1. thank you!! haha, i hope so too, but school has put me in a slump and i haven’t rated anything above 4 stars in over a month πŸ™ƒ ahh, i saw you made a bookstagram! welcome, and i hope we both enjoy our time there ❀

i hope you're having a beautiful august!! and you got this too πŸ₯Ί online classes are definitely hard to get used to but imo they have their perks!

  21. Good luck with school, Caitlin! You can do it! I’m glad you at least had a long-ish summer break! I’m also sad I’m going to school soon, but… maybe it will not be so bad. Maybe.

I tried doing the Chloe Ting 2 week shred and I was just not made for that. 😬 I’m glad you tried it too! At least you tried and did something, that’s better than nothing at all! 😊 I’m sorry your reads last month were disappointing, that sucks. 😦 Hopefully this month will be better, even if you read less! I’m definitely looking forward to reading I’ll Be The One sometime, so I’m glad you liked that one!

And I’m so glad you’re finding your blogging voice more now. πŸ₯ΊπŸ’• You’re doing a great job, even if it doesn’t feel that way sometimes! Right now I’m starting to think that I’m just overly critical of myself, always trying to improve. There’s this saying that artists are often critical of their work because they know there’s always something to improve on, even though everyone else is thinking the artist is doing just great, and I think that can apply to any art or hobby! What you did this month was probably different than any other month you’ve ever experienced, and even though some things were not the same, you also did some other great things you’ve never done before! Like planning your WIP! I’m so excited for you to continue with it! ❀️ (And maybe for NaNoWriMo? πŸ‘€ I’m cheering you on no matter what!)

I hope you’re having a great August so far! ❀️

    1. i hope it’s not so bad for you, haha! so far school is okay, but it really sucks out all my energy to blog :((

i’m pretty sure you’ll like I’ll Be the One! It’s so feel-good and happy that I can’t imagine how someone wouldn’t enjoy it at least a little πŸ˜… ahhh, my reading month isn’t going well at all, but hopefully it looks up. haha, i’m just proud that i completely 2 week shred once, it’ll most probably never happen again, but at least :”””)

ahhh, xandra 😭😭 i really, really needed to hear that! i think i’m doing okay—just struggling with a general lack of motivation to do things because after i finish my homework i just don’t have energy anymore :”) but i hope you know that you’re doing amazing too! right now i’m Panicking because i’ve made almost no writing progress this month bit :””””) let’s just see

      I hope you’re having a great August too! ❀

  22. Good luck on school, and I’m so happy you decided to join bookstagram! It’s probably my favorite bookish platform πŸ₯°
I’m sorry you didn’t love any of the books you read last month, and I’m so sad you didn’t like The Song of Achilles. That book made me cry, but I’m a huge mythology fan so maybe that’s why it hit me differently. Hopefully, you’ll read better books this month 😊

Still, working on your writing seems to be going well for you, so that’s exciting! I used Camp Nano to start planning and outlining a new project, and I’ll keep on fixing some things, but I can’t wait to write my first draft in November. Good luck with your planning, and I hope you’ll be ready to start drafting during Nano as well!

  23. I’m all for quality over quantity — that’s what this entire year has been for me reading-wise and I’m okay with it. πŸ˜‚πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ But seriously girl, CONGRATS on joining bookstagram! You are already off to a great start, and I can’t wait for the months ahead!

  24. I keep hearing great, great things about I’ll Be The One and I *have* to read it asap, I know I’m gonna love it!! And I’m sorry about These Violent Delights, but as we’ve talked before, I’m sure your opinion will help lots of readers lower their expectations (I’ll certainly keep it in mind!!). I’m glad to know your classes have been going well, do you only have online classes? (and good luck with all your homework!! πŸ˜› ) My classes only start in October, and I’ve e-mailed my future Uni to know the classes plan and they’re thinking about doing one week in person, one week online, and so on, … I think I can get used to that :/

    1. I really think everyone will enjoy I’ll Be the One, and I hope it doesn’t disappoint! lmao i’m still so sad about TVD, but yeah, maybe i can help people have the reading experience i didn’t 😭 haha, the Philippines isn’t handling the pandemic well at all, so it’s all online! i actually like online classes (well, as much as i can like school). & that’s such an interesting plan! i hope it goes well and that you stay safe, marta ❀

  25. AAAHH I LOVE I’LL BE THE ONE SOOOO MUCH!!!! i read it while i was pretty sad because of real-life things and it made me happier, so i guess it’s more of the symbolism of the book for me that makes it a favorite (though it is a pretty amazing book).
also just stumbled accross your blog and i love it!! aaahh!! ❀️

I hope you have a good August!

  27. I agree so much with Jade City!!! I loved the idea and that opening scene, but I felt so uncomfortable with the fatphobic feelings plus other weird things. And telling us SO MUCH information about the culture instead of just letting the culture develop by itself. jade city broke my smol heart.
also I love this post and your blog πŸ™‚ ❀

    1. thank you so much!! and, ahhh, i can’t tell you how glad i am that someone agrees with me! the series definitely has its merits (i’m so happy that it’s gonna get adapted!), but some scenes/lines just gave me weird feelings, and i HATE how dense it is
