The Stuck at Home Book Tag // Basically my Pride Month TBR + Some LGBT Book Recs!

Today’s post wasn’t supposed to be a tag…

But since all the posts I wanted to publish before this one were taking too much time to write, here we are. I’m really excited to do this tag though!! I’m pretty sure most of us are now used to the Quarantine Life, so what better way to celebrate our assimilation than with a quarantine-themed book tag? Thank you so much to Rhi @ Marshmallow Harmonies for tagging me!! She has an amazing blog aesthetic, gives great book recommendations, and is super friendly—please go follow her. πŸ₯Ί

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading two things!!

42190679 42185079. sy475

Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation by ε’¨ι¦™ι“œθ‡– This is a Chinese BL (another term for m/m) web novel that’s been translated to English. I’ve heard such good things about it, particularly the main couple!! Like, you will not believe the fanbase this book has attracted and the amount of fan content there is for it. So far, I’m not Obsessed yet, but I really hope I will be, because it’s been a long time since I’ve truly felt for a ship. Also, this is the book that the c-drama The Untamed is based on, and I really love The Untamed!!

The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow– I’m listening to this one on audio, and I’m not that far in to give my thoughts on it yet. I love the sci-fi aspect though. And I already know that it’s gonna heavily focus on the value of art. This is also by a Black author, and the main character is fat, Black, and biromantic demisexual!

What’s your favorite can’t-leave-the-house activity?

I mean, reading and blogging obviously. I also kill time/procrastinate by watching music and BookTube videos on YouTube.

(I’m boring and don’t have a lot of hobbies okay. 😭)

I’ve been working out though!! I just finished Chloe Ting‘s 25-day slim thigh challenge, and I’m gonna start her 2 week shred tomorrow (or rather, today, because this post is going up at 1AM Philippine time…). I wouldn’t call exercising an enjoyable activity, but knowing that I’m doing something good for my body does give me a burst of serotonin. 😌

A book you’ve been meaning to read forever?

But I’ll go with With the Fire On High, which was in the “I’ve been meaning to read this forever” section of my April TBR. And guess what? I still haven’t read it. 😫 I’m the worst.

I listened to a few chapters of it on audio, but had to put it down since I had more pressing books to get to. I’m hoping to finally get to it this month. It’s not even that long; the audiobook is only seven hours, and I listen at 2x speed, so I’ll have to be canceled if I don’t finish it soon.

An intimidating book on your TBR?

Again, a lot!! But I’ll go with The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. There is so much hype for this book, and I’ll be SO disappointed if I don’t like it.

Also, I know how it ends.

I know. It’s based on mythology—anyone who knows mythology probably knows how it ends. But still!! I’m worried that knowing how it ends will somehow ruin the reading experience. :((

Top three priority books on your TBR?

My TBR is a mess right now, and I have about 10 books on my priority TBR. Here are three of them:

20893527 34460349 50160619. sx318 sy475

Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery– This is up there with WTFOH when it comes to “why haven’t I read this yet??” levels. By now, I have no excuse. My crops will flourish and my skin will clear when I finally cross this book off my TBR.

The Midnight Lie by Marie Rutkoski– I am finally reading Marie Rutkoski’s new f/f book!! This has gotten mixed reviews, but I’m cautiously optimistic because I enjoyed the Winners Trilogy.

You Should See Me in Crown by Leah Johnson– In my opinion, we should promote and read books about Black joy as much as we do books about Black pain, and I think this book is one of the former. I originally wasn’t gonna read it because the premise didn’t intrigue me, but the good reviews have changed my mind. Plus, sapphic romance!!

Recommend a short book?

40495957. sy475

On Goodreads, it says that Heartstopper is 278 pages. But it’s a graphic novel, and I promise it’ll go by super quickly. πŸ₯Ί While reading this book, you’ll probably tell yourself “just one more page,” only to end up reading five. The story is so cute, fluffy, and happy, despite having a trigger warning for an abusive relationship.

You can even read Volume 1 and all the other volumes online for free! (Yes, legally.)

Recommend a long book?

29774026. sy475

The Priory of the Orange Tree is a high fantasy featuring an f/f romance, and it’s very famous for its length (almost 900 pages).

I know many of you are intimidated by it, but I say just go for it! It’s best if you allow yourself to take a long time to finish this book—don’t rush it like I did. In many ways, it’s a quintessential high fantasy. But this time, the women are the ones saving the world.

Something you’d love to do while stuck at home?

WORK ON MY WIP!! I have a story idea that needs fleshing out, so that I can finally start drafting it. Caitlin stop daydreaming about your OCs and actually write about them challenge.

What do you plan on reading next?

12000020 43575115. sy475

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz– A gay classic!! I actually read this book a long time ago and didn’t like it. But my taste back then is very different from my taste now, and I’m excited to see what I think about this upon reread.

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern– I’ve actually read a couple pages of this already, and I’m so intrigued! This is the last book on my 5-star predictions TBR, and since I haven’t rated any of the other books on that TBR 5 stars, I’m tentatively hoping that this’ll be the one I do.

I hope this post was still coherent and enjoyable to read!! I drafted it at 12AM, which is when my brain stops working.

Tagging Stephen, Caro, Olivia, Divine, Kay, Ilsa, and Rukky. (No pressure!)

What are you planning on reading this month? HOw are you spending the quarantine life? Are you doing more productive things than me right now?

  1. I’m listening to the audiobook of the Priory of the Orange Tree, and it was a little intimidating at first (it’s 25 hours long), I’m really enjoying it!!

      1. You got through it in three days!!! That’s amazing πŸ™‚ I’m about halfway through, and I’m listening to it sped up so I can read it faster. It’s really really good though!!

  2. Thanks for the tag, love!! And lol, serotonin πŸ˜‚ I have no idea what that is, but I think I get it too lol. I’m also using Chloe’s workouts, and I need to be more regular about it, so it’s inspiring to hear that you got through one of her challenges! πŸ™ŒπŸŽ‰ congrats!!
I will totally cancel you if you don’t read WTFOH!! (i never would cancel you, but you get my point) And Anne too! Honestly, I should probably re-read Anne before I hype it since it’s been so long since I did, and I’m also curious to see if I’ll still like it after all this time. But I’m still going to hype it, and you 100% need to read both WTFOH and Anne, Caitlin!!
Lol, I barely have any hobbies either besides reading and blogging so I feel you on that. Tho I want to start learning new languages as a hobby? If that’s even a hobby. So far Spanish has been good, but I want to do German and maybe Mandarin or Cantonese eventually. Why? Idk, it’s really mesmerizing to me and I really want to be able to read it πŸ˜‚πŸ€¦πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ I also feel like it’ll be a real challenge since it’s nothing like English at all.
Anyways, yes, work on that WIP! (did you see my reply? bc I’m having a mini heart attack about it possibly being lost) You can do this!!

Thanks so much for the tag again ❀✨ Happy reading!!

    1. of course!! and serotonin is—omg i forgot the term for it πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ but it’s a chemical that your brain produces. it makes you happy, relaxed, etc. πŸ˜‚
ah, thank you! πŸ₯Ί some of her workouts are super hard, so i’m wishing you all the luck with them ❀ ❀
Yes, I know πŸ˜πŸ’— i swear, society will approve once I finally read WTFOH and Anne. :((( Anne is pretty good so far (Anne is such a lively protagonist πŸ˜‚). i'd love to know what you think about it if you reread it!
learning a new language is so hard, so it should be counted as a hobby πŸ˜” i want to be fluent in another language SO BAD. i'm like, halfway fluent in Tagalog since I've lived in the Philippines my whole life. i can understand Tagalog pretty well, but i'm really bad at speaking it, & i don't know most big words. i tried learning Spanish on Duolingo for like, three days, & then got lazy & gave up πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ since my school is a Chinese school, i've been learning Mandarin since kindergarten, but I'm still far from fluent in it. I’m hoping watching cdramas will help me improve my Mandarin but who are we kidding i’m just using it as an excuse to watch more cdramas. Mandarin is such a hard language to be fluent in, & I’m full Chinese, so I should be able to speak fluent Mandarin. so i will be SO proud of myself if I ever become fluent in it πŸ˜‚
ah, thank you!!! ❀ best of luck with your wip as well πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί please scream to me about your writing process i will literally never be annoyed :(((

happy reading to you too, Rukky ❀ ❀ ❀

      1. Anne is the epitome of lively protagonists. She’s just a force of nature and I love her for it!! I think I’m going to go for a reread maybe next month. Especially since I actually skipped some of the books when I first read it πŸ™ˆ
Hahahaha πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Duolingo’s honestly not the best for learning? Practice yeah, but not really learning I think. Tho I’m still using it for German right now anyway so…
Lol, watching them could still help! I was actually thinking about watching more shows/movies in Spanish just to help with my understanding. It was a big failure the first time (The only reason why I knew what they were saying was bc I’d watched the movie like 5 times in English already) but I think it would work if I used a movie that I didn’t really know…and it would be fun πŸ˜πŸ˜‚
Maybe reading in it could help? Idk, I haven’t ever tried Mandarin so I really have no idea how hard it can be…and if you are semi-fluent at it, I’ll probably positively fail πŸ˜‚ Nonetheless, I wish you the best and I know you can do it!!

  3. Great post! Love all the book recs. I really want to read Priory of the Orange Tree because I love fantasy but size scares me. I might have to just pick it up and go for it.

  4. I’m hoping to read You Should See Me In a Crown over the weekend and I’m so excited! I’ve heard such good things, and I just hope that I love it as well! And I finally caved, and now a copy of The Starless Sea is on its way! I’m so excited to read it once it gets here! It will probably jump immediately to the top of my TBR! And every time I see someone mention Priory, I always get the urge to read it, but then after a day or two the page count starts to intimidate me again! Maybe once I get my TBR down a bit more and quarantine is somewhat lifted, I can borrow Chana’s copy and give it a try!

Also, I 100% relate to you on the hobbies front. Ever since my semester ended, all I’ve been doing is reading, blogging, watching Booktube, cleaning my room, and working on puzzles. Nothing very exciting. Although all those things make me happy, which is the important part, really!

    1. i hope we both love You Should See Me in a Crown!! omg i’m so jealous that you’re gonna have a physical copy of The Starless Sea πŸ₯Ί literally all editions of it are so gorgeous. everyone finds Priory intimidating, but it’ll stop being so scary if you try your best not to think about the page count. (easier said than done i know πŸ˜…)

i know of so many people who’ve turned to baking during quarantine, and i just… can’t relate. literally nothing i do everyday is interesting. yes, what matters is that you’re having fun!! i think i am having fun, but at the same time i’m worried that i’m not utilizing my free time to its full potential πŸ˜…

  5. me seeing Ari and Dante , and the starless sea πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯° I hope you enjoy both of them since they’re both 5 star reads for me! Also I know now you’ve finally read the song of Achilles and I’m so glad you loved it!!!! Now you can feel the heartbreak along with the rest of us!! Also yeah I have just the with the fire on high sitting on my shelf…I need to pick it up soon!!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. i mean this in the best way possible, but you’re a critical reader, so knowing that you gave ari & dante and the starless sea five stars makes me super optimistic about them! lol i haven’t read tsoa yet, but i’m ready for the pain πŸ˜₯ hope we both enjoy wtfoh!

  6. I don’t think knowing how The Song of Achilles ends ruins the reading experience at all! I’m pretty sure the author writes it knowing that readers will know the ending, and, to use a cliche, it’s much more about the journey than the destination πŸ˜‰ (I’m cringing at myself so hard)
I just downloaded the audiobook of You Should See Me In a Crown and I’m sooo excited for it πŸ˜€ And I can’t wait for you to read The Starless Sea – that’s one of my favorites! Good luck with all your reading πŸ˜€

    Liked by 1 person

    1. no, you’re not being cringey at all!! that was so reassuring to read, & it makes me even more excited to finally pick up tsoa πŸ₯Ί
i hope we both enjoy You Should See Me in a Crown! ahhh, opinions on TSS seem to be mixed, and mine are on the positive side. thank you so much, Margaret!!

  7. I’ve had to work during the time of the quarantine as I work at a nursing home. I’m so glad so see that you want to read Anne of Green Gables. The entire series is just so pure and heartfelt. I love it so much! Excellent post! πŸ˜€

    1. i hope you’re staying safe and well despite still having to work right now, Lacy! i’ve read a few ages of Anne already, and Anne is such a pure and lively protagonist πŸ₯Ί i really need to continue the book soon. thank you so much ❀

  8. Oooh hope you enjoy The Starless Sea! I’ve been mostly spending quarantine life working from home now that my internship has started, spending time with my family, and reading/blogging/bookstagramming. It’s been so nice to catch up on all of the reading I couldn’t get done during the semester!

  9. Thanks so much for tagging me! I’ve been meaning to read With the Fire On High forever too haha glad to see I’m not the only one who… still needs to get to it. And ahh I’ve heard such great things about Priority of the Orange tree… but… like… the length I’m scared lol **insert gif of kid hiding behind their parents legs** f/f women saving the world does sound good though… this summer, I swear

  10. Thank you very much for the tag, Caitlin! 😊 I’m sure you will get to a lot of these books and enjoy them. I would love to read Priory but I do find the length intimidating lol. Happy reading!

  11. I felt like the last person to get to With The Fire On High when I read it earlier this year but I guess not πŸ˜‚ hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to read it. Good luck with getting going with your WIP, I’m sure you can do it. And I definitely need to read The Starless Sea sometime – I’m hoping to get it from the library when they reopen. I’ll have to read The Song Of Achilles sometime too as I adored Circe. And The Priory Of The Orange Tree, it was one of my most anticipated books of 2020 so how have I not read it yet? I can’t even blame the length tbh as I just look at it as being more story to love.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. lol, you’re definitely not. ahhh, i really need to read it already 😭😭 thank you! i hope we both enjoy The Starless Sea and The Song of Achilles! omg i think you’re the first person i’ve met who isn’t intimidated my Priory’s length, haha! that’s a good way of looking at it though. I hope Priory doesn’t disappoint!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Aww I’m sure you’ll get to soon πŸ’• I really hope it lives up to the hype for you when you do read it. Yes me too, both sound amazing 😍 yeah I’ve noticed most people are but length doesn’t bother me generally (unless it’s a book that I have other worries about, like classics and whether the writing style will be dry) which seems odd when I’m stuck in a reading slump. I think I’m more wary of not enjoying them due to the slump and put them off because of that. And thank you, fingers crossed, I have heard some fantastic things about it . I hope you enjoy all the books you’re hoping to pick up πŸ’•

  12. Please read With The Fire On High and Anne of Green Gables!! They’re both so good and Anne is such a classic (I mean duh). I’m also tempted to maybe?? try Aristotle & Dante again. I DNFd it because I kind of hated it so I mean I probably won’t but the hype just makes me want to try it againπŸ˜‚
YouTube has also been my go to lockdown activity lately! I used to just put it on in the background whilst I was doing other stuff but now I’ll just sit and watch youtube for ages. Who are your booktube faves?? I’ve never really watched any booktube vids but I so should!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. i know, i really need to get to them 😭😭 hopefully it’ll finally happen this month! ah, it’s so sad that you had to dnf it :(( maybe continue if you really want to? but in my experience it’s best to dnf before the book puts you in a slump. i had to do that with some very beloved books, & though i regretted not finishing them, it was ultimately for the best πŸ˜…
i love youtube so much!! (even though it’s so bad for my productivity..) sometimes my attention span is so short that i have to be doing something else while watching a video. but some videos are so good, & sometimes i just want to relax & do nothing else, so i sit down to watch a video while doing nothing else.
ah, i’m so happy that you asked me for booktuber recs! booktube has its flaws, but i’ve loved it for years.
readwithcindy- she’s pretty popular, but for a good reason. she’s SO funny. just watch her channel. you won’t regret it.
mina reads- mina is funny, without really trying to be? it’s so fun to learn about her opinions on anything (not just books)
merphy napier- she uploads pretty frequently, and her videos and stances on things are always so thought-provoking
bowties and books- they put so much effort into their channel, & it’s clear in every video of theirs. they’re super funny & give amazing diverse book recs
paperbackdreams- oh god, she’s so chaotic, but that’s what makes her videos fun. also, you haven’t lived if you have yet to watch one of her rant reviews!!

haha, sorry to flood you with suggestions :”) these are just *some* of the booktubers i love, & there are so many more that i think are worth watching!! i really hope you give booktube a try ❀

      1. yeah definitely – i get in slumps so easily nowadays which is probably why i’m so quick to dnf actually. i’ll probably retry it at some point though when i’m in the mood because i do want to give it a chance! i’m just so rarely in the mood for sad books so it’s hard ://
thanks so much for all the recommendations!! i’ll give them all a go and hopefully i’ll love booktube too!

  14. I’ve been meaning to read The Starless Sea since it’s release so I’m super anxious to hear your thoughts. The thing is – The Night Circus is one of my all time favorites and I’m a little wary and intimidated by The Starless Sea. What if it doesn’t live up to my expectations??? The struggle is real! πŸ˜…

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I’m so sad that I didn’t love The Night Circus as much as everyone else! listening it on audio ruined my experience with it, and i want to reread, but at the same time I’m too lazy to. πŸ˜… the starless sea is good so far too! it’s like a story within a story within a story lmao. i hope you enjoy it when you get around to it!

  15. Definitely agree that The Song of Achilles is intimidating HAHAHAH I think I read this two years ago?? One thing’s for sure though, the writing is so beautiful! I remember listening to the audiobook and while I can’t really recall it the voice actors were sooo good and I imagine that they’re very attractive πŸ˜‚

Also thanks for recommending Heartstopper! I have only seen it in Goodreads in passing but never really read the blurb. Thanks for the tag Caitlin ^^

    1. I’m gonna be devastated if I don’t like TSOA 😭 I’d love to listen to it on audio, but I space out so much when I listen to audiobooks, & I don’t want to ruin my reading experience hahaha

ah, Heartstopper is so heartwarming! it’s such a great quick read! & of course!

  16. agsghahahs WITH THE FIRE ON HIGH WE MUST READ!! I am,,, so excited?? Like I’m READY to adore this book.

Also Caitlin, Anne of Green Gables is A TREAT! I recommend listening to the audiobook (you can stream it on Audible Stories, I can send you the link) because its narrated by Rachel McAdams. I LOVED that experience. And the show? SO GOOD.

Also I think we’re mind readers or something because I also want to read The Starless Sea as one of my many next reads ahhh

love Heartstopper too omg, MUST get my hands on Volume 3. I need it in my life (idk why im chaos today apologies)

    1. oh yeah we were supposed to buddy read!!! lol if you’re still up for it we can πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί but fair warning: i don’t really have time for reading right now, so i might not get to WTFOH for a few days or even weeks huhu

i’m really glad that you loved the book and show!! it’s so cool that the audiobook is narrated my Rachel McAdams, but i want to read it physically because i own the gorgeous puffin in bloom edition πŸ˜‚

i’m so sad i don’t think i’m gonna be able to get to the starless sea this month either :(( hope we both enjoy it though ❀

omg, i really need to read the rest of heartstopper too! i really wanna read the other two volumes physically, same way i read volume 1, though. i think that's why i still haven't continued it online, hehe

  17. I put off reading Song of Achilles for the LONGEST time for that exact reason – pretty much everyone raves about it? I loved it, although not as much as I thought I would – I actually prefer Madeline Miller’s second book, Circe πŸ™ˆ Omg Heartstopper is just so heartwarming!! I still need to borrow Volume 3 off my friend, I’ve only read the first two πŸ₯Ί I just finished The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern & loved it, but I’m a bit hesitant about The Starless Sea because it seems to have mixed reviews on GR? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it! πŸ’›

    1. so glad the song of achilles lived up to the hype for you!! ahhh, i really wanna read Circe too. but i think i’ll read it after i read TSOA because i think it’ll be interesting to see how Miller’s writing style progressed, hehe. yes, heartstopper is the ultimate book to read for a serotonin boost! i wanna continue reading it since i’ve only read volume 1, but a part of me wants to wait & get the other two volumes physically (which is unlikely to ever happen :/)

yes, i’ve seen mixed reviews for TSS too! but it seems to be up my alley, so i’m remaining cautiously optimistic. also, i really think i could’ve loved The Night Circus more than I did if I hadn’t read it via audio 😭

      1. Yes I’d definitely recommend reading Song of Achilles first – some of the characters reappear in Circe & I really loved that! Ahhh I *so* want to get my own copies of Heartstopper, but I’m kinda broke so atm I’m content with borrowing my friend’s copy πŸ˜‚

Awww that’s fair – I love audiobooks but even I don’t think I would’ve enjoyed the Night Circus as one πŸ˜… The converging timelines are difficult enough to follow in written format!

I really enjoyed With the Fire on High and I hope you do too! The cover is so gorgeous, every time I see in a post I’m reminded of its beauty, haha. BUT the inside of the book is even more beautiful so I think you’ll love it xx

Anne! You know my love for Anne…I need to revisit her so bad too. I just looked over at my bookshelf and my whole Anne series just glared at me for how long it’s been since I last read it. I want to read Heartstopper! The only Alice Oseman book I’ve read is Radio Silence, but it ended up being one of my favorite books of 2019, so I really should get on to reading her other books as well. I hope you enjoy your reread of Ari & Dante too!!

Yes, your love for Anne makes me feel all the more guilty that I haven’t read it yet :(( Hope you can reread it soon! Yes, I love Radio Silence so much too. It and Heartstopper really made Alice Oseman a favorite author of mine. I hope you can read Heartstopper soon! It’ll almost definitely give you a serotonin boost ❀ Thank you!

    1. Yes, the MC loves books a lot, and she actually references books like THUG, The Shadowhunter Chronicles, etc. in the book. My enjoyment of The Sound of Stars has plummeted, & I don’t think my rating will be higher than 3 stars, but I hope you enjoy it more than I do :(( Ahh, I really should try watching those types of videos in order to get motivated too. I feel like I’m getting nothing done these days lmao. Yes, when I first read the synopsis I actually thought You Should See Me in a Crown would be one of those books that’d get average reviews, and be forgotten by everyone in like, five years πŸ˜‚ but then all the positive reviews started rolling in. I really hope I can get to it soon—i really need a serotonin boost right now

omg great minds think alike πŸ˜‚ i’m so excited to read your post, & i can’t believe you actually edited your post to say that i tagged you? you’re seriously the best!!

  20. Ah I hope you’ll end up loving the sound of stars, I am so, so curious about this book, it sounds SO good πŸ₯° and I have also been meaning to read with the fire on high for a little while now, I finally got a copy of it so I’m hoping to get to it soon. Hope you will, too! Happy reading πŸ˜€

    1. ok, the winners trilogy isn’t one my all time faves, but it did leave a lasting impact on me. so i feel you on that why haven’t i read the midnight lie yet???
it’s so binge-worthy & fun πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί i really wanna continue past the first volume, but i’m still holding out hope that i’ll somehow get my hands on a physical copy since i don’t like reading things online haha
      thank you, nimika!!

  22. I relate to being boring and not having hobbies besides reading/blogging. 😭😭 I’ve started Chloe Ting’s slim thigh challenge yesterday because of you talking about it, and now everything hurts, so thanks for that. πŸ˜‚ It does weirdly make me feel more productive, like I did something useful with my time, and thankfully, I managed to convince two friend to do it with me, so we do our best to cheer each other on. ✨ I’m really excited for You Should See Me in a Crown – like you, I wasn’t terrible excited at first, but then I learnt more about it + read all the praises it’s received. πŸ™‚

    1. yes, ahaha i dislike getting asked “what are your hobbies outside of reading/blogging” 😭 bold of you to assume i’m that interesting
i can’t believe you actually started it because of me i’m so honored πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί i’m glad that it’s making you feel productive (that’s one of the biggest reasons i exercise!) & you have people to do it with you! i’m sorry for the pain hehe, but it does feel good to know that your body is benefiting from it. (or maybe that’s just me? πŸ˜…) also slim thighs is nothing compared to 2 weeks shred, which i just finished today πŸ˜‚ i like 2 weeks shred more because it’s easier to commit to, & for me, the workouts were more effective though
yes, the premise made me write it off at first, but omg i’m almost done with it & i absolutely recommend it, Vera! the story definitely isn’t mindblowing, but not everything has to be. sometimes you just need happiness & Black joy πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί

  23. Really recommend with the fire on high!! I also really liked song of achilles (and I get what you mean about it seeming intimidating- but I also think it’s a lot more accessible than you might think!) Heartstopper is great as well πŸ˜€ Awesome answers!

  24. i read this post when i first saw it in my reader, but i just skimmed it and saw chloe ting’s name and [hides face] i wanted to do more workouts from her this month, but the day i tried to do it, i got my period and almost passed out lmao 😭😭 but AH CAITLIN every time you talk about your wip i just want to know moreee give us some crumbs ma’am ANY crumbs 🀲🏼

also… whenever you do read the song of achilles i am waiting in the dms for you! i’m scared about what you might feel about it, but at the very least i think you’d give it 3 stars (which, as we all are aware, is a not a bad rating 😎). i’m like very late to this post so instead of saying good luck with your tbr i’ll say i’m glad that you enjoyed the midnight lie and you should see me in a crown lmao!! ❀

    1. nooo, your health always comes first ❀ don't worry about not working out all the time!! i'm so honored that you want to learn more about my wip πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί but i'm gonna be completely honest & say… i don't know either… i used to have a plot in mind, but i don't think it's the story i want to tell, so i'm currently trying to come up with a new one πŸ˜”

thank you!! i have only read like, 3 chapters so far, and i'm temporarily setting it down for these violent delights hehehe. but i'm liking patroclus' narration & i think i'll rate it at least 3 stars as well!! will totally update you when i get further in πŸ₯Ίβ€

  25. Such great answers! I did Chloe’s shred challenge and it killed a bit but it was also kind of fun once you get used to it?? I read The Song of Achilles earlier this year, I had the same fears as you, but knowing how the myth goes doesn’t take anything away from the book in my opinion. Actually, I even shed a few tears at the end, because despite knowing where we were going, Miller’s writing is just so beautiful and makes you feel so much for the characters. I’ve also been trying to get myself to stop thinking about writing and actually putting words down on paper (or keyboard as it may be), so to motivate me I decided to participate in Camp Nano this month. I’ll just be planning/outlining, but I’m still so excited about it! Good luck with your writing πŸ₯°

    1. thank you!! omg your comment just reminded me that i’m currently doing the 2 weeks shred challenge again πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ i’m currently on day 2 lmao. and yes, sometimes it’s really hard, but it does really help your body!! i’m so glad that knowing how the myth goes didn’t take away from your reading experience! i’m currently reading TSOA and you’re right—her writing is so good ❀ that's so good to hear!! i hope you do well in Camp NaNo and make lots of progress! right now i haven't made enough progress to be able to outline or draft i'm just planning, haha :")
