Once I noticed that this week’s topic was our most anticipated releases of 2019’s second half, I just knew I had to participate. I’ve been anticipating so many, and it was so hard to narrow this list down to just ten books. Even though these shiny new releases are inevitably gonna distract me from the backlist titles I have to get to, I’m not even mad about it.
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.

Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim

Expected on: July 9 || I just finished this yesterday and I highly recommend it! The writing is so good, and the story reads like a fairy tale.
Wilder Girls by Rory Power

Expected on: July 9 || My eyes are so drawn to this cover because it’s so beautiful. Apparently this book features tons of body horror, and as someone who enjoys reading horror (though it’s a different case with horror movies), I can’t wait to read this! The author has also confirmed that it’s gonna be super gay!
The Dragon Republic by R.F Kuang

Expected on: August 9 || I got approved for an e-arc of this way back in April, and I still haven’t read it because I suck. I gave the first book four stars, and I’m hoping that I love this even more and rate it the full five stars (please, please, please).
Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

Expected on: September 10 || The early reviews for this are all rave reviews, not just “I liked this a lot” reviews–I’m talking “this is a new favorite” reviews. I like going into books not knowing much about them, but all you need to know is that this involves lesbian necromancers.
Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell

Expected on: September 24 || More Simon and Baz content!! It’s everything I could’ve asked for!
Crier’s War by Nina Varela

Expected on: October 1 || Yet another book that I got approved for on Edelweiss and still haven’t read, though in my defense, the release date for this is still far away. All I know about this is that it will feature automatons and an f/f romance, but I’m mainly excited for it because Shri’s review 100% sold me.
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo

Expected on: October 1 || It’s Leigh Bardugo’s first non-YA book! I’m so excited that she’s writing Adult, because I think that she could take her stories to a whole ‘nother level if she weren’t writing for teens. (It’s kinda ironic that I’m saying this as a young adult myself, but the truth must be said.)
The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh

Expected on: October 8 || This is being hailed as the book that’s gonna bring vampires back to YA, albeit POC vampires, and I’m not mad about it. I’ve read and enjoyed older works by this author, and I can’t wait to see how she’s improved!
The Never Tilting World by Rin Chupeco

Expected on: October 15 || Another e-arc approval! Even if this book weren’t by a fellow Filipino, I would still be anticipating it because it’s about twin goddesses, pitched as Frozen meets Mad Max. I’m a few pages into The Bone Witch by the same author, and I don’t have many thoughts yet, but I do know that you should go follow Rin Chupeco on Twitter now! Seriously, they are a gem.
The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black

Expected on: November 19 || Holly Black really blessed us when she came through with the news that this finale was gonna be published in 2019 instead of 2020. Though my love for this series has waned a little, I cannot resist my urge to find out how this story will end.

I seriously cannot put into words my excitement for some of these! We can also be mutuals on Twitter and friends on Goodreads.

Do we share the same anticipated releases of the second half of 2019? What are your most anticipated book releases of 2019’s second half?

I completely forgot about Rainbow Rowells Wayward Son….. off I go to pre-order it….

oh gosh, you almost missed more Simon and Baz content :00 (just kidding ahahahha), but hell yess! hope you enjoy it and that your pre-order arrives as soon as possible :))

CRIER’S WAR!!! I’m so excited about it!!!!! Hate-to-love f/f romance featuring robot girlfriend?? Yes please! I’m super excited about Gideon the Ninth, The Beautiful and Wayward Son too (although you won’t catch me talking about Wayward Son bc I’m still bitter about E&P
). The Never Tilting World sounds really good as well, and I heard it has lesbian MC!!!!!!

my exact thoughts when I read the synopsis!!! omg yeah, I was originally not gonna include Wayward Son on the list, but then i wanted to be super honest about what I was truly anticipating, and I decided to add it anyways. I definitely should be talking about how harmful e&p is and how Carry On is not the pinnacle of lgbtqiap lit when I talk about this book or series. Thanks for reminding me to do this (even though that maybe wasn’t ur intention 😂) and I’m so sorry for the hurt eleanor and park caused you!
me too! someone tweeted about how it had an f/f romance and I was sold!! ok now I’m really proud of myself for including so many f/f gems in this list lol

I was going to include it in my list too, but I’ve made the decision to not talk about her or her works publicly. She’s a popular author, her books will sell regardless, so I want to direct my energy to marginalized and ownvoices authors instead. I’ll definitely still read Wayward Son (I miss my disaster vampire son). It would be nice if more people are aware of the harmful rep in E&P, but I’m not eloquent enough to talk about it haha.
Also I’m so happy to see so many quality sapphic books coming out this year and receiving so much hype!! What a time to be alive, am I right haha

Great list! We have several of the same books on our list 😀 I am quite excited to see how The Beautiful will turn out. And I of course can’t wait for it to become November so I can read The Queen of Nothing 😉

Great list! I love the cover of Wilder Girls so much and I really need to read The Poppy War soon – I want more Asian-inspired fantasy in my life. I love the sound of Crier’s War, too; there’s been so much good f/f fantasy recently. 🙂

thank you so much 💚💚 ikr? it’s so pretty! and you definitely should read The Poppy War! the world building is so good and it has its flaws, but i think the second book is gonna be way better! the series is pretty dark though, so i recommend reading the content warnings before going in :))
you said it!! i’m so happy that more f/f books, especially sff ones are surfacing lately. i’m so excited to read it like, all of them, but Crier’s War is one that’s at the top of my list!

I’m SO ready for The Queen of Nothing Wayward Son, you don’t even understand. 😀 I’m also excited for Wilder Girls and basically all of the other books on this list, but you know me, my TBR is already way too large. It’s mountainous, and I already didn’t need more books to add. But oh well.

omg yes, I can’t wait to see how the story arcs continue!
wow what a MOOD. I totally get that you wouldn’t want to add more books to it and I wholeheartedly support you setting them aside to read backlist books. I’m actually considering of making 2020 a year of only reading backlist books, and only allowing myself to read books published before maybe 2018?

I would do the same thing, but I know I would still get distracted by the new releases, so what’s the point? 😂

So many that I’m also excited for! 😀 Wayward Son and Ninth House are obviously among my most anticipated, and after all the love I’ve heard surrounding Gideon the Ninth, I can’t wait to read it myself and see what all the hype is about!

I am so excited for pretty much ALL of these, Caitlin!! I think my top 3 most anticipated would have to be Ninth House, Girls of Storm and Shadow, and Gideon the Ninth. I know I’m not getting ARCs for Ninth House or Gideon the Ninth (still holding out hope on GOSAS haha), so I am very tempted to just preorder them! And aahh I am also super excited about Wilder Girls — I might be getting an ARC from a friend, but even if that doesn’t happen I’m definitely checking it out from my library when I can!

yayyyy, I hope we love all of these!! i’m praying that you’re gonna get that GoSaS arc, and even if you don’t, i think we all know that you are one of the people who deserve it the most. 💜
omg that’s amazing! friends are the best, and I hope you actually do receive Wilder Girls!

I’ve heard that it’s gonna be amazing! Spin the Dawn was a nice and solid four star read for me and many others, so i think it won’t disappoint 💛 me too!! like, what is going on in Holly Black’s mind??

Such a great list!!! There are so many here that I am waiting to read, QON especially! There are so many books I wanted to pre-order, but the only rational part of me (AKA my self-imposed finance manager and common sense filter, my friend Beth) told me it ain’t happenen today. Meany. But hey, at least I can now afford groceries?

thanks!! hope QON doesn’t disappoint!! omg i wish i had a friend like that 😂 my friends would probably just say “do whatever” and idk if that’s a good or bad thing. I mean spending it on groceries instead isn’t all that bad for me because foooood though hahaha. hope you enjoy all of these books though!!

I think I want to read everything on this list! Although I do still need to read the previous books in a couple of the series. I’m most desperate for Queen Of Nothing (yet terrified to find out how it ends), The Beautiful, Ninth House and Spin The Dawn. Others that aren’t on this list that I’m highly anticipating are Serpent & Dove and There Will Come A Darkness.

That’s amazing—hope you love them! I think that’s fine though, because you could marathon them? Trust me, some of these books’ previous installments end in major cliffhangers so that may be a blessing in disguise. There Will Come A Darkness is such a familiar title, and I have heard of Serpent & Dove! Thanks and I’ll check them both out!

Thank you 😀 Yes that’s definitely true. I know several things that I’ve read in the past have ended in such massive cliffhangers that I had no idea how I’d cope with the wait :L Okay, great (:

Ahh what a wonderful list! I am so, so, SO EXCITED to read Spin The Dawn, it sounds way too amazing. I’m also curious about The Beautiful, I’ve loved The Wrath and the Dawn series by the author and can’t wait to read more from her!! 🙂

thanks!! 💜💜💜 the romance in spin the dawn is a bit trashy, but in a good way 😂 the writing and quest aspect were so good though!
same, the wrath and the dawn was pretty solid, and i can’t wait to see her take on vampire in The Beautiful :))
